User Interface Systems

The overall user experience is paramount in the market success of any sophisticated mobile device. Intrinsyc understands that user interface expectations now go well beyond screen design and easy navigation to the desired feature. We can help you transition to the next stage of converged device interfaces.

Silverlight for Windows Embedded CE

As an early adopter of Windows Embedded CE 6.0 R3, Intrinsyc engineers are ready to deliver great user interfaces using the new Silverlight for Windows Embedded user interface (UI) framework in conjunction with the official launch by Microsoft. As part of this effort, Intrinsyc has built up expertise in Silverlight for Windows Embedded UI development with engineering and design resources in Beijing and Vancouver to support global OEM development teams operating around the clock.

“We are excited to support Intrinsyc . . . in the Silverlight Partner Initiative in leveraging their expertise for the development of next generation specialized devices with rich, immersive user experiences.” Valerie Olague, Microsoft.

The Intrinsyc team will be providing free half day “Jam Sessions” designed to deliver a detailed overview of Windows Embedded CE and Silverlight with a focus on each customer’s specific needs. Participating OEMs can bring a specific Windows Embedded CE or Silverlight question to the session or use the session to shorten their learning curve. Branded Interfaces

The ability to easily customize and brand the user interface is very important to wireless operators as well as makers of smart handsets and converged devices. Intrinsyc is a pioneer in creating tools and frameworks that allow maximum ease and flexibility in modifying the user interface. One example is our Soleus UX Designer plug-in for Visual Studio. Designed specifically for Soleus feature phone development on the Windows Embedded CE platform, the Soleus UI framework separates the application logic from the application UI layer to enable rapid changes of the user interface, resulting in efficient development of differentiated user interfaces.

Event-driven Interfaces

Get ready for brand new usage models for converged devices. One breakthrough in UI design that Intrinsyc can help put into practice on your device is an event-driven interface. The idea is that the device will present different appearances and options depending on its environment. A few examples illustrate the concept:

  • A sporting or concert ‘home page’ becomes available when you arrive at the event, offered by the wireless network in the stadium.
  • A VOIP application becomes available on the home screen because Wi-Fi internet access is detected.
  • The device detects Bluetooth speakers connecting and offers to start playing music.

Assuring Reliable Interfaces

No one is impressed with an interface that responds sluggishly or a device that runs out of power quickly. There are tradeoffs to be managed during your development process between peak performance and maximum battery life. In order to enhance the overall user experience of your converged device, be sure to optimize power usage everywhere, from chipset to OS state to interface design. Intrinsyc can help.
